My name is Hassan Attarian Shandiz, I was born in 1981 in a religious family. My father was a calligrapher, and it made me familiar with this art from when I was a child. I started learning the calligraphy at my teenage years, actually from when I was 14. I went to Mashhad Calligraphy Association and started my learning course with Master Mozafari. I remember that my master always told me:
Calligraphy is a talent that God has given to you and if you do not use this talent in its right way you will be in charge of that, perhaps your future livelihood and your wealth be inside this talent too
Now, after about 20 years, I remember the advice of my master, He was right actually

Financial problems caused me to give up my lessons and go to find a job but my calligraphy instruments were always  with me everywhere I was. I went to high school and studied electronics to find a good job in future. After high school I went to university but I gave up very soon. I got married and started my job in a company as a simple worker. I lived this way for eight years and every time I wasn’t at work I trained my calligraphy lessons

I lived this way for eight years until I got familiar to the “Technology of Thinking” and started to change my life. I didn’t want to be a simple worker anymore, I wanted to be an entrepreneur, I wanted to change my life so I started to write . down all my goals. Then I continued my lessons with master Keikhosrow Khurrosh and master Zo-al-riasatin and went to calligraphy courses of master Jafari and master Ghanbarpour and attained the mastery of calligraphy this way

One day my colleague  told me: “Hey. you have a very good hand writing. why don’t you learn the engraving?”. He was thinking of engraving on pens actually as it was custom those days. He said but he did not know that his words were the beginning of a new journey in my life. I started to learn the engraving on pens, one day when I was looking around to find customers for my pens. I was suddenly attracted by the very precious engraved stones and I decided to learn the engraving on stones instead of selling the cheap pens. So I searched for masters of this art and asked them to learn me. but it was required to pay a huge amount of money. I was in a bad financial situation and it was not possible for me to pay a large amount for that when my family was not in a good economic situation. So I decided to learn it by myself. It took me about 2 months to learn how to fix the jewelries on a base to engrave on them. Every time I asked for how to keep the stones stable on a base or which instruments I have to use for engraving, everybody refused to learn me. They all said “this is a secret and we cannot tell you about that“. and now I revealed the secret, to anyone who is going to learn it

Finally, I found someone who came to reveal me this secret and learn me about that but at my home and just in 4 sessions. The first and second sessions of learning all my engraved stones were sold but after the third session he refused to learn me more and said you’d better not do that, you are not suitable for this art and you won’t be successful. He told that and didn’t learn me anymore. I was disappointed. I no longer had a job and no money to learn the art completely
The only person supported me at that time was my wife, who encouraged me to start again. After that I spent all my time on learning by myself. Days and nights passed this way and after 3 or 4 months doing that I finally managed to sell my first engraved stones. It was a great beginning to start a job I really wanted to have all my life: arranging my team, learning the engraving on stones, being an entrepreneur. I did the calligraphy, someone did the engraving and someone did the Illuminated manuscript
That was the time I decided to reveal the secret and learn the engraving on precious stones so I went to Historical Malek House – Art and Handicraft Skills Center in Mashad- and started the learning courses for others. After that I learned the emboss working on silver and then I learned the fretwork and got acquainted with a stone called Har Kare in Mashhad. It is a type of serpentine that is very soft but resistant to fire and it has been using from long ego to make pots and for cooking. Then I began to integrate the art of calligraphy with engraving and fretwork and emboss workings on this stone to make different products creatively
