Let’s visit Moghadam Historical House: A Museum in the corner of the capital

Moghadam Historical House was introduced between 1950s to 1960s years for the first time, when Professor Arthur Upham Pope, an American historian, published an article entitled “Survey of Persian Art”

The house was belonged to Mohsen Moghadam, the youngest son of Ehtesab- al- Mulk was once the mayor of Tehran during Naser- aldin- Shah Qajar period. Mohsen loved painting from childhood. He taught painting at Kamal- al- Mulk painting school and afterwards traveled to Switzerland to study painting. During the Second World War Mohsen returned back to the country but after a while he left Iran again to study archeology and History. On returning back to the country again Mohsen accompanied a group of the archaeologists to visit the ancient sites of Iran

Mohsen was one of the Iranian archaeologists who visited and studied the ancient sites of Iran. He was the founder of Fine Arts School at Tehran National University. After marriage, Mohsen and his French wife decided to set up a museum of their valuable objects that had bought during their lives

They decided to stay at Ehtesab- al- Mulk and and exibite their objects there for the house was one of the most luxurious houses of Tehran

Moghadam Historical House constructed in two separated interior and exterior parts. Along with the all precious objects exhibited in this magnificent house, you can find valuable golden tiles which some of them have no pattern in the world. The textile collection that are kept frozen in glass frames too are unique in the world. Besides the walls and exquisite doors, there is a small room located in the entrance of the basement all decorated with very beautiful shells and valuable corals

Mohsen Moghadam had bought many of these items from the wealthy owners of the old houses who wanted to renovate their properties. Some of the items have also been smuggled out of the country that he had bought them from dealers and some others were gifted by visitors. Among them are the precious red pots dating back to the 5th millennium BC

Moghadam Historical House is located in Imam Khomeini Street (Hassan Abad). The best way to get there is taking the subway, you can get off Hassan Abad station or Imam Ali University Station and walk for about 5 minutes from Hassan Abad station to the west or Imam Ali University station to the east
Moghadam historical House was granted to Tehran University after the owner died in 1982
